The second of the free Sunday Surprises concerts went as planned on the Southbank Centre’s Riverside Terrace, under a blistering (for London) summer sun. Considering what a massively popular spot this is, especially on a sunny Sunday afternoon, the stellar line-up attracted a relatively small audience of passers-by. There were all the usual familiar faces down the front who were a lot more familiar with the up-and-coming bands than those who had bought tickets for big-name main events. Although it was surprising to me that anyone who calls themselves a music fan, and especially for Meltdown, would ignore the free offering. Is it any wonder that new bands are struggling to find audiences.
Rather than writing about all the bands, here’s pictures of their performances and samples of their recordings, so you can make up your own mind.
